The street behind my house is now a street garden. I love to stroll and take a look at the street as I walk down the street and see the rows of flowers blooming throughout the spring. I love to walk along, smell the freshly mown grass, read the newspaper, and see the newly planted flowers. It is so pretty.
The street garden is a fantastic example of the fact that gardening is actually a good way to lose weight. You cut a big chunk of your day up a really long distance, and then you take a walk down the street and look at the people who are all walking in the same direction. You could think of it like taking a long walk in the country, but at the end of the day you’re walking in the city.
The problem with many of the urban gardens we see on TV is that it makes us want to look over our shoulder. It reminds us of what we missed out on in our childhoods. It reminds us of how far we still have to go. It reminds us that we can’t be just “those guys” who are just gardening on their couches. It reminds us that as a society we’re still figuring out what it means to be an adult.
We’re talking about spring-like gardens here. When cities and suburbs are springing forth with new life, the idea of taking a long walk in the countryside is exciting to us. We want to look over our shoulders and see if we missed anything. We want to have the opportunity to explore our city (and our suburban garden) on our own terms, as opposed to having someone else tell us what to see.
It’s a good point. It’s also the same reason why we love the park and why we love the beach. We want to explore and take a little break from our usual routine. It’s not always easy to break out of our routines, but we do it all the time.

The park is like a big open-air playground for us. It’s where we can usually find a spot to take a break and put our feet up and watch the world go by. The park is our only means of escape, as we can escape to any other park we see whenever we feel like it. We’ve discovered many, many times that the park is a perfect place for a little something to happen. That something can be a group of friends playing a game or sitting and watching the world go by. What are these little things that happen in the park? In fact, there are a lot more than just these two things. In the park, we can meet other park lovers from all over the world. Just walking in the park or going for a bike ride can lead to an evening of new friendships, new adventures, and new parties that last for hours. We feel really lucky to have a park like that.
You know what else I love about Spring Garden Street? It sounds kinda boring but I love the way it sounds. It’s a big park full of people watching, people working, and all of the other things that happen in a park. You could totally spend an entire Saturday sitting in a park with friends and not do anything else.
