I have been going around in circles recently. I am very familiar with the term, oot94, and I have been using it for a while. Now I am learning about the term, self-aware. I have always been aware of my own emotions and I have never felt that I am self-aware. I am aware of my feelings, but I never felt that it affected me. I always felt that I was in control. I’ve got to rethink that a bit.
There is a difference between self-awareness and being aware of your emotions. I’m not sure if I have ever had the experience of being self-aware. I know I could have been aware of my emotions, I could have even been aware that I was sad. But I never felt sad.
It seems like there is a lot of research that has been done on that topic. One study found that over 80% of our brains are actually self-aware. It’s one of the most important facts about ourselves we know.
I remember back in college being asked a question that was like, “Do you feel self-aware?” And I was like, “I don’t know.” I mean, I’m pretty sure I could have felt sad, but no, I don’t know. I never felt sad. Because I don’t feel sad, I don’t know.
Self awareness is a subjective feeling. There are no facts about it. We are all different, and this is why we might ask this question when we feel sad. But it’s not like I can tell you I feel sad. As a matter of fact, I don’t. I might feel sad, but I don’t know, I don’t know. If I do feel sad, I can’t tell you.
Self-awareness comes in as a spectrum, with some people feeling like they can think about it, some people never even feel it at all. It depends on whether we are aware enough that we can say “I feel sad” or “I don’t feel sad.
The problem with feeling sad is that it’s probably not an emotion that you’re feeling right now if you’re not aware of it. So we often have to ask ourselves, where does it end? If you are a person who can tell you that you feel sad, you might feel sad for hours and hours and hours at a time, while other people might just feel sad for a few seconds.
For example, if you have a friend who is sick and suddenly you feel sad because you know he’s going to die soon and you feel like saying goodbye to him, but youre not really sad, youre just confused. If you could think about the situation and say, “I feel sad, I really really want to say goodbye to him,” then you would probably feel sad for a few hours, but you wouldn’t feel sad for a few seconds.
If you can take one step back and ask yourself, “Why am I feeling sad?” then you will see why you feel sad. For example, if you look at a picture of someone crying and you think, “That person is going to be in pain for a few hours.” Then you’re not really sad. You’re just confused.
If you could take one more step back and ask yourself what causes you to feel sad after that, you will also see why you feel sad.
