I love the food in China, especially the foods with a different flavor than what is found here in the United States. I love dishes with noodles, dumplings, and other noodle-type dishes that are more like a cross between American and Chinese, but with a unique flavor from both cultures. This is one of my favorite dishes here, and I have made it a few different ways.
My personal favorite is the Chicken with Noodles and Steamed Potatoes, which is basically a large bowl of chicken with noodles, steamed veggies, and a sweet and sour sauce. It’s so, so good! However, my family’s version is called Cantonese Chicken, which is basically the same thing, but with green onions instead of red onions.
I don’t know how many people have heard of this dish, but it is a popular street food in portland, and the best place to get it is at a Chinese restaurant.
In some cities, it’s called “chicken with jalapenos”. Most of us are probably used to the Cantonese version, but the difference is that in the Cantonese version, you have to eat it with a spoon. It’s pretty tasty though.
Like most of the other street food dishes, this one is very popular in certain areas of the city. I was lucky enough to recently have a delicious bowl of this, and when I came across a few comments on the internet about the difference between the two, I decided to play around with it myself as well. The most obvious difference is that in the Cantonese version, you’re allowed to put a spoonful of the dish in your mouth.
Since I don’t speak Cantonese, I couldn’t tell you exactly what’s different, but I do know that it comes from the city of Guangzhou in China, which I also love and am a big fan of. I could also tell you that the dish is basically instant noodles with a few vegetables, but most street food dishes these days are just fast food.
It also comes in a variety of flavors. In the Cantonese version you can also put a spoonful of the dish in your mouth with a little chopsticks. The reason I think its a better form of eating is that you can taste the spices that you put in it. Also, if you have a bowl of noodles, you can just get a little spoonful of it for yourself.
I have to agree with the other comments here. I love Cantonese food, but I also think the noodle bowl is a little too common and boring. For those of you who don’t know what a noodle bowl is, you can have it as a side dish, as a snack, or as a main-course. I think that the Cantonese noodle bowl is a little too common, and I think you should think twice before getting yourself one.
